celebrating colonial wars

Memorials to carnage
That we're not allowed to judge


A post-imperial western dream
When the empire is done
exporting western values
With an airstrike and a gun
A nation building fantasy
In the interests of the rich
The bodies keep on piling up
And they don't so much as flinch


It makes them sad - emotionally
That their powers gone - totally
Their right to behave - atrociously
That they've become - nobodies

They can try gunboat - diplomacy

We're living in the modern world
Not 1891


Our glorious leader blusters on,
a deranged megalomaniac
You can crave the empire all you like,
but it's never coming back

The empire is over
the sun has truly set
You won't find it in Afghanistan
You won't find it in Iraq
No more onward christian soldiers
No more tiffin on the lawn
There is no global Britain
The empire is gone
